Pic Nic

16x20 m (52 x 66 ft), site specific installation, collaboration with Oliwia Beszczyńska, Wrocław, Poland 2011

This work was part of the 9th edition of SURVIVAL festival - whose main theme was, ‘When a Park Becomes an Arena’, referring to the meeting of strangers and the wide host of activities that become public within the open area of these recreational spaces. In this way, the modern park serves as the city’s living room.

PIC NIC aims to make the park's original function as a city garden the focal point once again, emphasizing this as a social meeting place in nature. An oversized red checkered blanket situated on a small hill in the park invited passersby to stop and enjoy the surroundings with others. It quickly became a social arena as families and neighbors eagerly took over the space, making themselves at home within the territory of the blanket.
