From 2018 to 2021, I took part in pro-abortion street protests in Poland. I was wearing a safety vest with a hand painted text: KOBIETA (FEMALE in polish), while holding a flag made of the same material.
The first time I used this vest was during the 100 Flags march organized by an informal group of activists. It was conceived as a reaction to the political environment in 2018. At the time, the government held a number of celebrations, marches, exhibitions and other initiatives celebrating the centenary of Poland’s independence flooded the public space. However, the 100 Flags march was created to draw attention to the equally significant, and yet at the same time completely overlooked anniversary of the centenary of women's suffrage in Poland (November 28th, 1918).
