Location: Headlands Center for the Arts (944 Simmonds Road, Sausalito, CA 94965)
Next Sunday, together with Sam Stevens we’ll be taking part in the Fall Open House at Headlands Center for the Arts (a gorgeous, uncanny place!), where we’ll be presenting a new body of work: SF88 Nike Missile Site Fence (copy) installation based on the lumen prints made in situ. We will also be sharing locally crafted Surica beverages (see more → Nuclear Ferments)

Nuclear Ferments, October 18-November 1 | 12 -5 PM
Location: Headlands Center for the Arts / Project Space
Stop by to sample a wild fennel ferment called “Nuclear Ferments” named for its color and the site’s nuclear history. Based on Surica, a Polish folk beverage named after a Slavic sun goddess, we cultivate wild yeasts and bacteria from fresh cut herbs, flowers and fruits forged around Marin Headlands to create a sour and sweet probiotic drink. Connecting this Eastern tradition with the site of a Cold War era military base, we think of the history of the site and the multilayered definition of nature. We started with using wild fennel, known as an invasive plant, that grows around the Headlands and gradually started adding other forged ingredients like: berries, and flowers.
